Fragment #27

#27
Come, happy bridegroom, let me sing
About your wedding day and the bride
You are taking to be your wife, a beauty
She is, a prize worth the picking

Yes, you a child once declared your intention
Approach, come sing these things to us
We want you to talk to us, give us your blessing
She has the grace of a swan

For we go to your wedding, and surely we know
To be alone, you know this, but as soon as possible
Send the girls away, may gods bring you to the
          Immortal realms you have dreamed

You’ll be as Leander swimming the Hellespont
You’ll be on the road to great Olympus, the
Greatest athlete for men to compare themselves to
          On this your wedding night
