Fragment #39

#39
Look at me, adorned, the feet
By spangled straps covered

Beautiful Lydian work finely

          Wrought in my skirt

Embroidered with delicacy and
Daintiness are the roses on my robe
My headgear of the finest linen
          Embellished with purple dye

Phaon has sailed to fabulous Sardis
And carried home to me all the
Luxuries of Lydia, so I might appear
          As some eastern divinity

Inlaid, my jewels around neck and arm
Look at me, Phoan, in my refined
Sensuality, I only have to begin
          Pouring nectar

To feel as beautiful as a goddess,
Tonight, our fires will burn more
Luxuriously as I behold you, my beloved
          Fairer than Adonis
